General Aftercare

2

After washing your hair don’t leave it wet for too long. When your hair is wet it’s heavier and causes stress to the extensions' bonds.

Hair extensions are not your real hair (obvs!) so to keep them as soft and healthy as possible, a hair mask every 1-2 weeks will help to add moisture and keep the hair in a manageable state!

4

When washing your hair, use shampoo as you normally would, but avoid using it on the lengths/ends of the extensions.

5

While in the shower/bath make sure to always condition the length and ends of the extensions, leaving the conditioner in for 10-15 minutes.

6

Try to avoid brushing your hair when it's wet. If you do this, I recommend using a Tangle Teezer or a wet brush.

7

Separate your Nano or Micro bonds everyday. This will prevent them from matting.

8

Keep your hair extensions washed correctly. Doing so will prolong the life of the hair.

9

Always hold your root when brushing your extensions, using a Tangle Teezer only.

10

Never sleep with your extensions wet.

11

Secure your hair into a braid (or two) or a low ponytail before bed every night.

12

Attend regular maintenance appointments, these are usually every 6-8 weeks depending on hair growth! (This will be discussed at the fitting appointment)

13

Use a deep conditioning mask every 1-2 weeks.

When you first get your hair fitted don’t wash your hair for at least 2 days! This helps the extensions to soak in your hair’s natural oils!

There can be too much of a good thing!

Your hair will need a break from extensions every 10-14 months, which is usually after the lifespan of the hair is complete. I recommend a month's rest between new sets of extensions to give your natural hair and roots a chance to breathe.

Nano Bond Aftercare
Nano Aftercare
What to expect
  • Due to the size of the nano bond, nano rings are naturally more prone to loss than any other method.

  • You should expect between 1-5 to come out within the first week. And anywhere from 10-25 hair extensions between each 6-8 week maintenance appointment. This amount of loss completely normal and is to be expected.

  • When strands comes out, keep them safe in either a hair bag or on your hair rack. (Both can be purchased from me during appointments or via my website)

  • Separate your Nano or Micro bonds everyday. This will prevent them from matting.

  • Attend regular maintenance appointments, these are usually every 6-8 weeks depending on hair growth.

Washing & Conditioning

  • When you first get your hair fitted don’t wash your hair for at least 2 days. This helps the extensions to soak in your hair’s natural oils.

  • Hair should be washed 2/3 times a week at most.

  • It is essential that you only use shampoo recommended for hair extensions when washing your hair. This will be shampoo and conditioner that is sulphate free; these products have been specifically designed to protect extension hair and bonds.

  • Using non-extension hair care products can severely cut the lifespan of your extension bonds and extension hair, causing dryness and tangling.

  • When washing your hair, use shampoo on your root and scalp, but avoid using it on the lengths/ends of the extensions.

  • I recommend using a shampoo brush to help massage your scalp and get between your nano bond sections more easily.

  • While in the shower/bath make sure to always condition the length and ends of the extensions, leaving the conditioner in for 4-6 minutes.

  • After washing your hair don’t leave it wet for too long. When your hair is wet it’s heavier and causes stress to the extensions' bonds.

  • Hair extensions are not your real hair! So to keep them as soft and healthy as possible, a hair mask every 1-2 weeks will help to add moisture and keep the hair in a manageable state.

Brushing

  • Try to avoid brushing your hair when it's wet. If you do this, I recommend using a Tangle Teezer or a wet brush.

  • Always hold your root when brushing your extensions. Brushing your hair without holding your root will lead to extensions being pulled out.

Styling & Heat Protection

  • You can style your extensions as you would your natural hair including the use of heat tools; don’t forget your thermal sprays or serum!  Again avoid the use of oily styling products on the scalp.

  • Use of heat protection thermal sprays or serums are highly recommended; care should be taken to avoid the root area to prevent the extensions from slipping. Try to avoid overly using straightening irons. Blonde hair has especially been through a lot of processing and more care is needed.

Sleeping and Drying

  • Never sleep with your extensions wet. This causes matting and will dry out your hair extensions.

  • After washing, use a microfibre towel or t-shirt to gently squeeze the majority of the water from your hair, then finish drying with a hair dryer.

  • When your hair is wet it’s heavier and causes stress to the extensions' bonds, so it is important to completely dry your extensions from root to tip.

  • Secure your hair into a braid (or two) or a low ponytail before bed every night. This will help to prevent matting at the root and breakage the ends of your extensions.

Swimming & Exercise

  • Always tie up, preferably in a bun and avoid going under the water or if it is unavoidable You can protect the mid lengths and ends by dampening the hair, holding in a ponytail and applying a watered down conditioner solution (mid length and ends) plait and secure it up out of the way.

  • Shampoo immediately after.  Never leave wet hair tied up after swimming.

  • Tie hair back when doing physical exercise.

  • Always wash and dry straight afterwards.

Saunas/Steam Rooms & Sun-beds

  • Regular use is not recommended, wrap dry hair in a towel or hair turban.

  • The UV light from sun-beds can dry out and discolour hair extensions.

Going Abroad?

Going abroad requires further aftercare as excessive sun, heat exposure, sea salt and chlorinated pools, all dry out our natural hair and it is exactly the same for your hair extensions. All these factors can shorten the lifespan of your extensions and cause them to dry out. Use leave in conditioner to help combat the drying effects of the sun.

Take extra care when abroad; keep hair protected from the strong sun, sea and chlorine; if it does come into contact with chlorine wash your hair immediately. Use a leave in conditioner during the day when around the pool and spritz your hair regularly. Take a deep nourishing hair treatment and treat your hair whilst away.

A sun hat or cap is always a good idea.

Blonde clients are recommended to use a clear hair oil as opposed to Argon / Moroccan Oil due to it being orange in colour, combined with the heat and sun exposure this can also change the extension colour. No responsibility/ liability will be accepted for problems arising when clients go on holiday wearing extensions so take extra care protecting them.

Weave Aftercare
Naked Weave Aftercare
What to expect

Naked Weave is a brand new take on applying weft extensions that uses no heat, glue or braids. Most importantly there are no visible connections, which is what makes it so innovative. Also, the positioning and sectioning means you can have more versatility when styling your hair, making high ponytails more discreet.

Once your Naked Weave extensions have been fitted, you will need to attend regular maintenance appointments (every 6-8 weeks) to move the beaded rows back up to the root and reinstall the weft.

In the first few days you should not put your hair up into a high bun or ponytail; this will cause tension on the micro beads at your root and may cause pain and hair loss.

    - Instead, you should tie your hair back into a low ponytail, low bun or loose plait(s).

After the first week, you should be able to move the weft more freely without creating tension at the root. At this point you will be able to put your hair in a high pony - The hair style that Naked Weave is designed for!

Washing & Conditioning

  • Unlike other methods with a weft you can wash your hair whenever you are ready, there is no waiting period.

  • It is recommended you wash your hair a maximum of 2/3 times a week using products that have been recommended.

  • I recommend using a shampoo brush to help massage your scalp and get between the micro bead sections, without the worry of catching your fingers in the weft tracks.

  • You can use a dry shampoo between washes if necessary. Make sure you are only using on your natural hair and avoid the wefts.

  • Never shampoo your extensions with your head over the sink or bath. Standing upright in the shower or tilting your head back in the bath is recommended to avoid tangling.

  • There is no need to shampoo mid lengths as the lather will run through when you are rinsing. Ensure you rinse thoroughly paying extra attention to the root area; inadequate rinsing can cause a build-up of shampoo along the top of the weft which will irritate the scalp causing it to become flaky.

  • For clients with oily or very soft hair a clarifying shampoo is recommended; wash the scalp only and allow the lather to flow through when you rinse your hair. This helps prevent any slipping of the micro rings by removing excess oils. Never tie you hair extensions up when wet, this will cause matting.

  • Do not apply conditioner to the root area, always avoid the weft rings.

  • Apply to the mid lengths and ends only and comb through using a wide tooth comb; do not attempt to comb hair above the rings.

  • Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week to keep hair in optimum condition; and make sure to rinse thoroughly.

  • Gently squeeze out excess water and pat with a towel.

Drying

  • Do not leave your wet hair wrapped in a towel for a prolonged amount of time, as it will make the extensions harder to brush.

  • Gently towel dry using a patting motion, never rub. Apply a leave in conditioner or hair oil; apply to the mid lengths & ends.

  • Comb through using a wide tooth comb, always support the hair at the root area when brushing or combing, starting at the ends, gently work up to towards the top of the weft.

  • Section the hair by each individual weft. Start with the bottom weft and pin the rest out of the way.

  • Gently rough dry your hair on a low heat setting until nearly dry, then using a hair extension brush, work from ends to the top of the weft. Never tug on the hair. Repeat with the next weft row until your entire weft and natural hair have been covered.

  • Ensure the top of the wefts are dry, even if you plan to let the rest dry naturally.  - Leaving your hair wet in the attachment area will cause the rings to slide down.

  • The fabric and stitching on the weft can also breakdown and rot overtime if they are not dried properly; this is known as weft rot.

Brushing

  • Only use a brush specifically designed to be used with hair extensions.

  • Separate the bottom weft row and pin the rest out of the way. Hold the weft at the scalp to support the extension and gently brush starting from the bottom and work your way up towards the weft and rings. Gently brush over the weft  in a downward motion.

  • Your extension brush has flexible bristle which will bend over the rings without catching.

  • Ensure natural hair is brushed in the same way. Continue to work up through the head, row by row.  Ensure you do this at least once a day (best in the morning after sleeping) to prevent any matting occurring.

Styling & Heat Protection

  • You can style your extensions as you would your natural hair including the use of heat tools; don’t forget your thermal sprays or serum!  Again avoid the use of oily styling products on the scalp.

  • Use of heat protection thermal sprays or serums are highly recommended; care should be taken to avoid the root area / Micro rings to prevent slipping.

  • Try to avoid overly using straightening irons. Blonde hair has especially been through a lot of processing and more care is needed.

Sleeping

  • Tie hair in a loose low ponytail or plait, Never ever go to bed with wet hair extensions, this will cause severe matting.

  • Silk pillow cases can help prevent tangling.

  • Shampoo immediately after and ever leave wet hair tied up after swimming.

  • Tie hair back when doing physical exercise and wash immediately afterwards.

Saunas/Steam Rooms & Sun-beds

  • Regular use is not recommended, wrap dry hair in a towel or hair turban.

  • The UV light from sun-beds can dry out and discolour hair extensions.

If you are dipping in and out of the pool, place your hair in a bun or use a sun hat, wash the chlorine out thoroughly at the end of the day.
